Snuff Sunday

After watching Akibatai00s videos over on YouTube i have been inspired to review some snuffs. Her review of Royal George (one of my favourite “Scented Snuffs”), reminded how much i loved it. So i Grabbed 6 scented and 1 plain snuff, to have some fun today. Im not a big snuff taker, i have a pinch here and there. My selection consisted of, (all Wilsons of Sharrow) Jasmine, Lavender, Apple, French Carotte, Apple & Blackcurrant, Irish High Toast 22 & Royal George. Now to try and allow my nose and taste buds chance to relax, i haven’t sampled these in the space of an hour.

Its about 9am and my (new) YouTube obsession is taking over, i have just uploaded a video on replacing the wick in a zippo(or any other zippo style petrol lighter) Watch Video. I tried the Lavender last night, so i will start there. The video will follow at the end of the post.

Wilsons of Sharrow – Lavender

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Medium/Dry
Cut – Fine/Medium
Tone – Light
Flavours – Lavender

Typical Wilsons Best SP based snuff. Light brown colour, finely ground and a bit dry. Not much of it clumping up in the tub. Pre-Pinch aroma LAVENDER (obviously), smells very strong too. The first hit was brief, not too sharp. As it fades the Lavender carries well, it does have a prominent Violet edge to it. The finsh is long, a good 20-30 mins. The Lavender did however fade during the finish, ending mainly with Violet.

Not a bad snuff, hasnt made me want to take it again. Wouldn’t say no if some offered me some, though. Im not a big fan of Lavender either, which makes me wonder i chose this one. As a kid my mum always had cermaic containers of Lavender on the radiators, the snuff reminds me of that.

Wilsons of Sharrow – Apple

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Medium
Cut – Fine / Medium
Tone – Medium
Flavours – Apple

Looks a bit darker compared to the Jasmine, more moist too. The aroma from the tin is subtle, cant really detect the Apple. More of a medium SP really. The first pinch, was sharp and burnt a little. Not much apple, can taste more of the tobacco over the Apple. The little apple flavour that did come through, was almost spicy. The finish is very short, 1-2 minutes and that all she has to offer.

Not that impressed with this one, the Apple doesn’t come through well at all. What little does come through, fades so fast. Even though apples isnt a very pungent aroma, i was expecting a little more.

Wilsons of Sharrow – Jasmine

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Medium
Cut – Fine / Medium
Tone – Medium / Dark
Flavours – Jasmine

A dark almost Chocolaty looking snuff, has clumped up in a few places. Without having a pinch, a subtle Jasmin scent. The first hit is a little sharp, you can really feel a hit of nicotine. The tobacco flavour comes through, the darker leaf works really well with the Jasmin. The finish is long a good 30-45 mins off one pinch. You dont need a lot of this snuff, would make a great “Cant Smoke Here” alternative.

I really do like this snuff, i will be having more of this one. The strength is enough to feed a cigarette adiction. At the same time its got a full and robust flavour, highlighted with the Jasmine. Before this i wasn’t a fan or Floral or Scented snuffs, but now………

Wilsons of Sharrow – Irish High Toast No22

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Dry
Cut – Very Fine
Tone – Light
Flavours – Toasted Tobacco

A regular customer who uses the No20 a lot, has hated this stuff when she picked it up by accident. This has put me off it, in fact if the tin wasn’t dented i wouldn’t have brought it. The snuff is such a fine powder, you only need to breathe 3 meters away and it goes everywhere. Its a lightly coloured snuff, finely ground and dry. Initally i got a hit of saw dust and toast, with a little crisp, fresh tobacco twang. The flavours dont hang about long, fading to a long grassy finish. A pleasant snuff at first………. Not 4-5 minutes later, the fine snuff makes it way down your throat.

A bad end to an otherwise enjoyable snuff, need to try the No 20 now.

Wilsons of Sharrow – French Carotte

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Dry / Medium
Cut – Fine / Medium
Tone – Light / Medium
Flavours – Sandalwood Oil & “French Carotte” Essence

Wow a real powerful aroma from the tin, a familiar hint of baby powder. Once i took pinch i was blown away with the complex flavours. The sandalwood really comes through along with the scent of vegetables and kitchens. The initial hit is big, bold and hot. (made my eyes water). I really did enjoy this snuff from the first pinch, complex and very uplifting. A smooth and easy to take snuff, even the burn was smooth! Towards the end the snuff looses its complexity, ending on a long sweet & talcum powder finish

I love this stuff, never really been a big fan of the Perfumed Snuffs. Only Royal George has swayed me before, now i can add French Carotte to the list. If you like sweet and unusual snuff, then French Carotte is one for you.

Wilsons of Sharrow – Apple & Blackcurrant

Blended in – Sheffield, England
Moisture – Dry / Medium
Cut – Fine / Medium
Tone – Medium
Flavours – Apple & Blackcurrant

Was really expecting much from this one, after the disappointment of the Apple. From the tin it looks and feels much like the apple, the same base im assuming. Its smells like apple & blackcurrant pie/strudel.  Burns a little and is very sharp, made my eyes water like the first time i took strong menthol. The flavour is very strong and is distinctly Apple & Blackcurrant. Its sharp and a little hot, but enjoyable. The flavour isnt long lived, 5 mins and shes gone.

Better than the Apple, but still not a great snuff. Only the Blackcurrant came across well, maybe a little menthol would go well. Might give that a try.

By the end of the day my face was filled with so much snuff.

–Thanks for reading/watching.
